Boardgame Round-up
This week's major board game release is Middle Earth Quest by Fantasy Flight Games. This latest game set in the Lord of the Rings world is an adventure game set in the years after Bilbo returns with the ring and before the fellowship. As with all FFG releases this has a huge amount in the box, a large board, 470 cards and plastic figures for the heroes and villains. One player plays Sauron while up to three others play the roles of various hero's working for Gandalf. This game promises to be the adventure game of the year.
Ra, the dice game is an evolution of the classic auction game set in Egypt. Although this time players are rolling dice instead of drawing tiles. Its a more portable version than its predecessor and has rules for 2-4 players. Wizard has been reprinted, this trick taking game of wizards and jesters has had favourable reviews and makes a great filler.
RPG Round-up
Pathfinder RPG, this 576 page hardcover book has been in development for 10 years and been play tested by 50,000 gamers. That's some figures and by all accounts the first print run has already been sold out to the distributors. Pathfinder is a fantasy RPG that contains all of the rules in a single volume that while stand along, can also be played with supplements of another well known system.
The Scoundrel source book for the Traveller system brings to life those who work in the grey areas of the world. An invaluable resource for any rogue or drifter in the party. Western City is a novel RPG system that allows players to explore a wild west system with no games master. Immersive mechanics allow all players to share the spotlight and promise a different gaming experience.
